cross-step

The class method for setting up a noseride, where the back foot crosses the front foot, is planted so the legs form an X, and is in turn crossed as the other foot swings past. The cross-step is distinct from the much-easier "shuffle," in which both feet move to the nose without crossing. After two or three cross-steps, the surfer is in position to hang five. Cross-stepping is done almost exclusively on a longboard.
