Intrepid and semi-reclusive regularfooter from Manly Beach, Sydney; often described as the original Australian big-wave surfer. Pike was born (1940) and raised in Sydney, began surfing at age 14, and in 1961, after a stint as a a Queensland outback sheep-shearer, made his first visit to the North Shore of Oahu—big-wave Mecca, then and now.
